This week has been STEM Week. We’ve been helping our pirate friends find a new boat, as theirs unfortunately has a hole in it!
We’ve thought about the properties of the new boat. We’ve decided it should be waterproof and that it should float on water. To find the best boat we’ve been testing all sorts of materials including: paper, wood, plastic, fabric and wool.
First we discussed which materials are waterproof. Then, we tested the materials to see if they would sink or float. We dropped the materials into a tank of water and watched closely to see if they stayed at the top of the water, or if they fell to the bottom of the tank. We’ve found some interesting results which will certainly help us find a better boat for our pirate friends!
