Year One Thank you!

Dear Year One Children, Parents and Carers,

We have come to the end of a very different Summer Half Term for us in school and for those of you at home. The children in Year One have been fantastic during these challenging times with their hard work and commitment to continuing with their learning at home. It has been great for us to see their smiling faces and to hear their voices when they have posted their completed tasks onto Seesaw. We would like to say a ‘HUGE THANK YOU’ to parents and carers who have supported you with your learning at home – we could not have done this without you!

We would like to wish you all a safe and enjoyable Half Term holiday and we are all looking forward to seeing you all soon. Stay Safe and Take care.

With best wishes,

Miss Bowtell    Miss Hollison   Mrs Jones

Home Learning Year One

Dear Year One Children, Parents and Carers,

We have been so impressed and appreciative of the continued support that you are giving to your child’s Home Learning Tasks during these challenging times. The children are working so hard on their learning  in English, Mathematics and the Foundation subjects. In English this week, the children have produced a story board about ‘Mrs Armitage and the Big Wave’ and their work has been wonderful with carefully drawn pictures and writing. In previous weeks, we have also read the book ‘Flotsam’, which does not have any text, and the children had to use their imagination to think about what the story maybe about. They rose to the challenge and they produced such imaginative writing and drawing. During the mathematics tasks, we have been continuing to learn about 2D shapes and their properties. The children have produced careful work and they have used their knowledge to answer some challenging questions.

The work completed for the Foundation Subject Art Tasks has been amazing! The children have been learning about a range of artists including L.S. Lowry and Giuseppo Arcimboldo and the art work produced has been colourful, imaginative and creative! This week, the children have been learning about the Four Seasons and they have used a range of skills including collage, painting and drawing to show how a tree changes across all four seasons. It has been great to see the time and care that has been taken to produce this work. Well done everyone!

Thank you again for your support during this time.

Take care and Stay Safe and we look forward to seeing you all soon!

Best wishes, Miss Bowtell

Hello Year One Children, Parents and Carers,

Welcome back to our new Summer Term. I hope that you have kept safe and well during the Easter Holidays.

We have planned lots of different activities for you to complete and we are very lucky that Miss Hollison and Mrs Jones will also be working with us in Year 1 while we carry out our Home Learning. They will be commenting on your work and setting you some challenges too!

This week in English, we are reading ‘Sharing a Shell’ by Julia Donaldson and we will be making predictions about the story and writing a persuasive piece of text. In mathematics, we shall be continuing our learning about numbers including doubling and halving activities. Our Foundation Task is learning about Andrew Goldsworthy and discovering how he used the natural world to create his sculpture and art work. You will be able to create your own piece of art using the natural materials around you!

Additonally, we will send you a Daily News task and ask you questions about the world around you.  We will also ask you to complete weekly spellings and number bond tasks.

I have sent you more resources on Seesaw which you may find useful for additional learning activities.

Take care and stay safe! Have fun with your learning activities.

Best wishes,

Miss Bowtell
