Her majesty the Queen

Her majesty the Queen

Year 1 have had a great start to the new Spring term. We have started to explore our new topic ‘Her majesty the Queen’. We have been busy in English learning the story of ‘The Queen’s handbag’ which we had fun acting out. This was really useful for our writing. In Science we have been exploring Forces, in particular – push and pull. This has linked nicely to our D.T. where we have been thinking about how vehicles move. We’re looking forward to designing and making a vehicle for the Queen. Lastly, in PE we have been learning different ways of moving our bodies, practising gymnastics.

We are learning about traditional tales this week!

Year 1’s Drama Workshop

Year 1’s Drama Workshop

The children in Year 1 have loved having a drama workshop visit us this week. The people who led our groups knew that Year 1 had an exciting topic called ‘Hakuna Matata’ and they thought about this topic with us. We made our own amazing land that had lots of different animals and scenery. We used actions and interesting voices to enjoy this experience and we even got the chance to build our land using lots of material. We thought carefully about what our land would look like and we used our imagination to show this- we also used our teamwork skills as we worked together! After we made our land we thought of characters that could live in different parts of the setting we created. We really enjoyed ourselves.

Marvellous Masks!

Marvellous Masks!

The children in Year 1 have had a very exciting Autumn term so far. Our topic ‘Hakuna Matata’ has been really interesting. In DT we explored masks from the Lion King stage show. We used some of the creator’s and our own ideas to make our own masks of wild animals that we might see on Safari. Using lots of different materials like felt, card, paper, stickers, pencils, pens, and tissue paper we made our masks. We planned our masks and wrote down what material we would use for features like the markings, ears and nose. We wanted to be as creative as possible- please see these examples of our work. We have evaluated these too. We are very proud of our masks.
